The Importance of Competency

It's good to know what you're doing. When you take on as many new jobs and new tasks in the last year as I have, having a moment or two when you feel like you know how to find a challenging solution yourself, know how to answer a generally more knowledgeable person's question, and most importantly - help others do what they do better, you can build some confidence knowing that you know how to get things done.

Maybe I was due for some good vibes at the office, but Tuesday was a good day. The boss was out of the office and unavailable - so I ran an internal meeting, trained a new employee, accomplished numerous projects that had been on the agenda, and left work with motivation to return on Wednesday. Among those positive notes of the day, I stuck my arm into a jammed soda machine and got 5 pops for free, found out when my next vacation will be, and topped off the day with a brew with Patrick and Nate at the Chatterbox.

In this time when most of us are experiencing our first leap into the career world, days like today was for me are incredibly important. I needed a good day badly to raise my spirits - and it came at a good time. But it gets better, Wednesday marks the annual IB golf tourney! I'm gunning to win the new iPod.
